Fire & Earth Easter Gathering

The Fire & Earth Easter Gathering is the first of its kind at Bodhi Khaya. A heartfelt offering from the Community to family and friends.

Four days to connect to the earth and each other, to collaborate, to create and to celebrate the precious gifts of life that are family and friends. As we find ourselves on the other side of the Autumnal Equinox… the time of harvest and plenty ~ we will work with the elements of fire and earth to reflect the rich orange, red and brown colours that surround us in nature. We take with us, into the darkness of winter, the light which we each carry inside.

Igniting the fire of creativity and fun, we will engage in various activities using natural materials and carry out simple family fire rituals. We’ll share stories and cooking around the fire. Giving back to the land, we’ll get our hands into the earth and learn basic permaculture practices. And together we’ll move our bodies through fynbos walks, frivolous games and family dance.

“Celebrating festivals can bring us consciously to what we all experience instinctively in our daily lives, the changing cycles of the seasons and of life itself.

Through various festivals and rituals we acknowledge and celebrate our connection to  each other and the earth.”

As it is Easter time, we will celebrate with a classic Easter-egg hunt in the forest for the children and a marvellous co-created feast to honour and enjoy the abundant blessings brought forth from the earth. There will be much time to simply hang-out and relax in this beautiful paradise on earth.
In order to keep the costs low and participation high, each attending adult will have a turn to contribute to the cooking of meals and all will be responsible for washing up their dishes and keeping the facilities clean and tidy.

Specifically for those staying in a room ~ we ask that you bring your own bedding. We have rooms with single beds and space for a mattress on the floor; rooms with two single beds that can be pushed together and some bigger rooms that can accommodate mattresses on the floor for little ones alongside the beds. We have two rooms with king-sized beds… all our beds are valued equally, so first come, first serve.

Our intention is to create a gathering that feels like home to all… although most scheduled activities are held by the Bodhi Khaya Community, we invite all attending to contribute in whichever way they feel called to.

Email Caron on info@bkr.co.za if you would like to contribute  or require any more information.

Rich Autumnal blessings to all.
With love & gratitude,
The Bodhi Khaya Community

Nature & Dreams Retreat

4 - 7 April 2019

Mandaza Kandemwa, a beloved traditional healer from Zimbabwe hosts his first retreat at Bodhi Khaya in April. This retreat welcomes all who are searching for a way to reconnect with Nature and the true Self. Simple in its presentation, this retreat offers valuable opportunity to observe the natural world, look deeply within and to truly hear the messages perceived in our dreams.

Awaken Potential Retreat

14 - 17 June 2019

In June we have Gen Pagpa facilitating our awakening to our unlimited potential as human beings ~ through Buddhist teachings and meditative practices. Pagpa has held over 20 retreats at Bodhi Khaya. His teachings are inclusive and accessible, reflecting his gentle and approachable nature. We are deeply grateful for the ongoing relationship he bridges between Bodhi Khaya and the Tushita Kadampa Meditation Centre in Cape Town.

A Gift from our Kitchen

Bright Beetroot Hummus

A family-sized portion

Ingredients

  • 1 small roasted beet

  • 1 can cooked chickpeas (mostly drained // 1 can yields ~1 3/4 cup)

  • 1 large lemon (zested)

  • 1/2 large lemon (juiced)

  • 1 healthy pinch salt and black pepper

  • 2 large cloves garlic (minced)

  • 2 heaping Tbsp tahini

  • 1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 190 C, remove the stem and most of the root from your beet, and scrub and wash them underwater until clean.

  2. Wrap beet in foil, drizzle on a bit of olive oil, wrap tightly, and roast for one hour or until a knife inserted falls out without resistance

  3. Once your beet is cooled and peeled, quarter it and place it in your food processor. Blend until only small bits remain.

  4. Add remaining ingredients except for olive oil and blend until smooth.

  5. Drizzle in olive oil as the hummus is mixing.

  6. Taste and adjust seasonings as needed, adding more salt, lemon juice, or olive oil if needed. If it’s too thick, add a bit of water.

  7. Will keep in the fridge for up to a week.

    Enjoy!

Huni Kuin Eskawata Kayawai Retreats

(Eskawata Kayawai: Transformation)

Txana Ikakuru & Isarawe Huni Kuin from the Jordão region of the Amazon, visiting Bodhi Khaya and sharing their ancient wisdom with us all.

There is no claiming of power in these men... only humility and joy in their gentle holding of people healing together, a constant flow of creativity expressed through their music & colourful adornments, a deep reverence for and connection with Nature, and a pure message to see all beings living in balance and harmony with each other and the earth.

Honoured and humbled by their acceptance of the dark and amplification of the light... may we all walk in our power with such grace, may we always remember the potentiality of prayer and the magnificent allies we have in the natural world.
Thank you Txais for your authenticity and sincerely chilled vibes. Só Alegria! (Only Joy!)

The beauty of the place in which we spent these magical 6 days together cannot be expressed and described in words - this is Paradise on earth… I have never met a more beautiful and healing corner of our planet in my life. ~ Gevorg, retreat participant
